Respect yourself, others, and property. (Be kind with your words and actions.) 5. Complete and turn in all assignments/materials on time. (This includes specials classes and reading group work.) Specials RotationMusic
Gym Library Art Your child must have or wear tennis shoes on gym days and bring their library books for library. *This counts towards your child's citizenship grades and they earn/lose points for DoJo based on having the materials they need (tennis shoes, books, art box) and their behavior while in specials. Small Reading GroupsEvery student is assigned a small reading group based on their ability. Reading groups typically have reading homework 4 days a week.
As your reading ability grows, the group they are in may change throughout the year. Students should be reading every day for 20 minutes Math FlashcardsWe are working to memorize our addition and subtraction facts!
Second graders must pass all addition facts by Winter Break and all subtraction facts by early May. To aid in the memorization of these facts, your child has a set of flashcards. When we take our Math Attack quizzes, typically twice a week, your child has the opportunity to pass a level. Your child will have 35 seconds to answer 10 math facts at the level they are on. Our Math Attack quizzes are not given on specific days since our goal is memorization of the facts. Birthday TreatsDue to our corporations healthy foods policy, I have adopted the following choices for your child when it comes to their birthday treat. Your child may choose to bring in a healthy treat or one of these for each student (a pencil, pen, stickers, small toy, etc).
Each student will also get to choose a treasure box prize, no homework that evening, and get extra recess on their birthday. If your child's birthday in during a time in which school is not in session, they will get to choose a reward on a day school is in session Reading FluencySecond graders, reading levels J-M+, should be able to correctly read 90-120 words in 1 minute in an unfamiliar text.
